Dennis Fast > PRAIRIE CROCUS (ANEMONE PATENS)

The prairie crocus, or anemone, is one of the earliest flowers to bloom in Spring. Sometimes it actually pushes it's way through remnants of snow cover. Although the flower usually occurs in shades of pinkish purple, the one pictured here is the much rarer white variant.
Dennis Fast > POLAR BEAR CONFRONTATION ON SEA ICE

Polar Bear (Ursa maritimus) on sea ice off the sub-arctic coast of Hudson Bay, Churchill, Manitoba, Canada. Bears come to the coast of Hudson Bay in Fall waiting for the ice to freeze, and looking for a careless seal or for a dead whale to wash up. Global warming has shortened their winter so they are increasingly anxious as they wait for winter. While they wait, they engage in frequent wrestling matches to determine a mating hierarchy for the breeding season in March and April. During this time they regularly check on the ice to see if it will carry them out to sea.
Dennis Fast > CURIOSITY

The tiger is alert even in repose. Animals in zoos give a false sense of their lethargy. Give them some space and open air, and their instincts and awareness come to life quickly.

Dennis Fast > FRASER TOWERS & LA SAL MOUNTAINS, MOAB, UTAH.

The light was just perfect in the late afternoon to capture the famous Fisher Towers offset by the La Sal Mountains in the distance. Of course, a reflection never hurt a photograph either!
Dennis Fast > GRAY WOLF STALK.

The combination of a stalking pose and fresh snow falling lend an air of realism to this photo even in a captive situation. You don't really want to be the object of that stalk; but I have been followed by wild wolves without being threatened by them. They are masters at keeping out of site while keeping you in view at all times.
Dennis Fast > THE SMILE

If tigers can smile then I guess this qualifies. Even at rest, however, the tiger's intense stare creates a feeling of unease. I like him to look at the camera, but I don't want him licking his chops.
Dennis Fast > POLAR BEAR LOAFING IN FIREWEED & FOG

Polar Bear (Ursa maritimus) in fireweed (Epilobium angustifolium) on an island off the sub-arctic coast of Hudson Bay, Churchill, Manitoba, Canada. Bears come to spend the summer loafing on "fireweed" island and looking for a careless seal or for a dead whale to wash up.
